Dalhousie is a wonderful hill-station in the state of Himachal Pradesh, located about 2000 m above sea level. It is situated atop 5 hills.

As you approach Dalhousie, you are greeted with lush green and tall cedar and pine trees along both the sides of the roads.

Dalhousie is not a very big place per se. The roads that lead to the one main market, called Gandhi Chowk are steep. The uphill climb can be quite a task for people on heavier sides. However, the scenic beauty of each and every corner of this place is unparalleled.

The Gandhi Chowk, the main market area of Dalhousie has a range of handicraft and clothing products, that one may want to pick up. Also, the Tibetian & Indian Union around the corner of Gandhi chowk is a street-side showing outlet to pick up Tibetian stuff, elecrtronics and small knick-knacks.

Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh – The Home of Dalai Lama

Dharamsala, the home of The Dalai Lama, is also the winter capital of the province of Himachal Pradesh. Earlier known as Bhagsu, the small town nestled in the Himalayan mountains is also the headquarters of The Central Tibetian Administration.

Bhagsunag falls, one of Dharamsala’s major tourist attractions, is also an important place for Hindu pilgrims. It is host to a famous Shiva temple.

A steep and long walkway that leads atop the Bhagsunag falls is cuts through a huge mountain. There are small tea-stalls and a cafeteria along the way the walkway, and the area is a sheer delight to eyes during monsoons.

The rocky trail below the Bhagsu falls where visitors often love to drench in the falling waters.

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, more commonly known as HPCA is a picturesque cricket stadium located with the Himalayan mountains in the background. The capacity of the stadium is 23,000 people.

Khajjiar, popularly known as the mini-Switzerland of India is located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The nearest famous hill-station Dalhousie is located about 25 km away from Khajjiar.

Khajjiar was brought on the world tourism map by Mr. Willy T. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in 1992, and he was the one to name it “The Mini Switzerland of India”. He also put a sign board of a yellow Swiss hiking footpath showing the distance from Khajjiar to the Swiss capital Bern-6194 km.

Khajjiar lake area is a saucer-shaped lush-green piece of land, surrounded by forests and meadows. Situated at the foothills of Western Himalayas, Khajjiar is a very rare  combination of 3 different ecosystems blended together: forest, lake and pasture.

Across the world, there are about 160 locations that hold topographical similarities with Switzerland, and Khajjiar happens to be one of them. Hence it is also known as the mini-Switzerland of India.

Most visitors travel to Khajjiar by their private or rented vehicles. A huge allotted parking space around the beautiful plateau gives the visitors a chance to park their vehicles and enjoy the walk in the thick pine forests or walk around the green pastures.

There is a beautiful lake in the middle of the plateau and usually the climate is very pleasant with beautiful Himalayan peaks at a distant vision.

Children would love to roll around on the lush pastures without the fear of getting hurt. Horse riding is another attraction for adults and kids alike. Also, a big attraction is the pet rabbits that you can hold and play with for a stipulated time by paying money to their owners. The mere experience of playing with those fury cuddly creatures in such gorgeous lush pastures is nothing short of a dream, and straight out of a Bollywood movie.
